Press Release
CARLSBAD — Carlsbad City Councilwoman Farrah Douglas today announced that she is supporting Rocky Chavez in the race for California Assembly, District 76, asking all her supporters and voters of the district to vote for Rocky Chavez. Douglas said Chavez’s leadership experience and character make him ready to represent North San Diego County voters in Sacramento.
“Rocky is a candidate with high moral character and exceptional ethical standards as witnessed by the 76th District voters and families during the primary election. He has integrity and experience and knows how to lead,” said Douglas. “Like me, Rocky Chavez believes we need to focus on jobs and the economy – and that our students deserve a quality education.”
Farrah Douglas was first elected to the Carlsbad City Council in 2010 and won her seat by receiving the largest number of votes in city history. Douglas truly embodies the American Dream, escaping oppression in her native country of Iran in 1979 and later starting a successful printing business with her husband which has been open for twenty-two years. She has been an advocate for economic reforms – to bring back jobs and hold government accountable. And as someone who worked to put herself through college and graduate school, she stands for education reform to allow California students to succeed in college and careers.
Newly redrawn California Assembly District 76 is made up of Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Camp Pendleton. Douglas was one of three candidates seeking to represent the district in California’s June primary.
“I am humbled by the support of Farrah Douglas, someone who has met great challenges in her life while making a difference in business and government,” said Chavez. “She truly cares for her community, and I know she will continue to be a leader.”
Chavez served as a Marine Colonel, retiring after twenty-eight years, and later became California’s Veterans Affairs Secretary. He also spent nearly a decade as an elected Oceanside City Council member. His campaign is focused on job growth, education, veterans issues and government accountability.
