In a late morning news conference at celebrity attorney Gloria Allred’s office, a former housekeeper has revealed charges that have exploded the California’s governor’s race into controversy. Republican candidate Meg Whitman’s former housekeeper, Nicky Diaz-Santillan, alleges her employer of nine years mistreated and overworked her and claims she knew she was an illegal alien from Mexico.

The press conference was carried by Hollywood gossip site TMZ, which often works with the celebrity attorney.

Not surprisingly the Meg Whitman camp sees things a lot differently.

Whitman said in a statement, “After nine years of employment Nicky confessed that she ‘was an illegal worker.’ Nicky has falsified the hiring documents and personal information she provided to the employment agency that brought her to us in 2000.”

Whitman contends that Diaz-Santillan “is being manipulated by Gloria Allred for political and financial purposes during the last few weeks of a hotly-contested election.”

Allred did admit that she was supporting Democrat Jerry Brown in the governor’s race and this case has nothing to do with politics. “When people revert to name calling, as Whitman has, I know I have won the argument.”

  1. Ironically, the supposed “constitutional” candidate for governor, conservative Chelene Nightingale, has thrown the constitution out the window in acting as judge and jury by totally repeating without question the charges of liberal Allred, not even providing the benefit of the doubt to Whitman. I thought Tea Party candidates were supposed to be above all that. In this case, Nightingale becomes a mouthpiece for Brown and Allred. Some conservative.

  2. The Whitman campaign has released employment applications filled out when the housekeeper was hired in 2000, including a copy of a Social Security card and a California driver’s license, that indicated the woman was a legal resident.

  3. “Nicky Diaz, who was Whitman’s housekeeper from 2000-2009, claimed in a press conference alongside attorney Gloria Allred that Whitman was aware that she was undocumented and that the Republican candidate fired her only after deciding to run for governor. Diaz also said Whitman failed to pay her on time and did not offer her medical leave during her pregnancy.
Allred said that Whitman ignored a 2003 letter from the Social Security Administration notifying her of discrepancies in the Social Security number that Diaz provided.”

Also, *** UPDATE *** A CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday showed Whitman trailing Brown 52 percent to 43 percent.

  4. “….a 2003 letter from the Social Security Administration notifying her of discrepancies in the Social Security number that Diaz provided.”

Wow, Diaz provided Whitman a fraudulent social security number? That would make Diaz a liar, right? But, she’s not a liar now. LOL!!!!

  5. ” Whitman ignored a 2003 letter from the Social Security Administration notifying her of discrepancies in the Social Security number that Diaz provided.”

I don’t think “Nutmeg” is laughing right now.

  6. Here is how I read this Whitman story: if you do business with Mexicans or people who were ever from Mexico and they have forged documents, liberals will sue you.

I am not sure why liberals are so hell bent on turning people against people of Mexican descent and so discouraging towards their labor. Legal or otherwise. This new “sue those who have been lied to” trend is going to kill all business owned by anyone even appearing to be Mexican.

  7. LOS ANGELES — “The attorney for Meg Whitman’s former housekeeper released a copy Thursday of a purported 2003 letter that she says shows the Republican gubernatorial candidate knew all along that the maid might be an illegal immigrant.
Attorney Gloria Allred says Nicky Diaz Santillan kept the letter from the government after Whitman’s husband, Dr. Griffith Harsh, partially filled it out and told the housekeeper to deal with it.
“At bottom of letter, Dr. Harsh has written: ‘Nicky, please check this. Thanks,'” Allred said, adding that the housekeeper recognized the handwriting as belonging to Whitman’s husband.
A message left with the Whitman campaign was not immediately returned.” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39441870/ns/politics-decision_2010/

    Nutmeg’s still not laughing.

  8. There’s something to be said here for raising one’s own
children, and not farming the job out to a hired hand from
    any where.

Stuff I learned listening to Dr. Laura Schlessinger for
    the last 20 years.

    Yeah, I know, it’s a tough call… raise one’s own kids…
or help people sell Elvis memorabilia on ebay. But
    decisions have consequences.

  9. “Revelations about the illegal housekeeper have also thrown Whitman’s carefully managed campaign completely off track and opened the door for Democrats to accuse her of hypocrisy.
Whitman has called for tougher sanctions against employers who hire illegal workers, and the fact that she employed an illegal immigrant maid from Mexico for nine years could undermine her credibility. She has also spent millions courting Latino voters, who could play a key role in determining the outcome of the race.”

  10. Am I the only person here who doesn’t give a rat’s behind about Whitman hiring an illegal alien? All I care about is how Brown and Whitman will PERFORM if they are elected governor. What bills will they support or oppose? THAT’S what’s important to me.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t much care for Whitman. She’s Arnie in a skirt — unreliable from a tax and business standpoint.

Meanwhile Jerry Brown is something of an enigma — even to himself. He might pleasantly surprise us. Or not.

Barbara Boxer must go, but for me, the governor’s race is still something of a puzzler. One thing’s for sure — it is sad that the outcome of the governor’s race could rest on the hiring of an illegal alien, rather than on what is best for the future or California.

  11. Richard,

“All I care about is how Brown and Whitman will PERFORM if they are elected governor. What bills will they support or oppose? THAT’S what’s important to me.”

    Do you care about integrity?

  12. Talk about lack of integrity, 3rd party candidate for governor Chelene Nightingale AIP filed for bankruptcy and foreclosure just before saying she was running for governor. She is polling at less than 1% yet lies on her webpage saying “she is at 35%” to keep the donations rolling. Her campaign donation listed with the FEC is “chelene nightingale/legal defense fund” which means she can use the funds to pay judgements from debtors. Google “chelene nightingale/shawna forde” for her recent past with hate mongers and yes murderers. This woman who thinks that 9-11 was planned by our governor, is duping the unwise, that she is a viable alternative. I think this is the worst fraud I have ever seen, and that she should be investigated for mail fraud. thank you
