As of May 19, 2016 at 5:00pm, 927,729 ballots have been mailed to registered voters throughout the county. 58,779 voters have voted (either by returning their ballot, or through early voting).
This equates to an overall voting rate of 6.34% among all ballots mailed.
Breaking down the ballots by party, total returns are comprised of 38.64% Republicans (5.99% above registration), 41.81% Democrats (5.75%% above registration), and 19.55% independent (11.74% below registration).
In addition, please see the graph below for a breakdown of ballot returns by party over the first three days (City of San Diego).
I have put together a more detailed demographic breakdown for various jurisdictions in this excel file. Each jurisdiction is its own worksheet within the file. The jurisdictions included are: Countywide, City of San Diego, San Diego City Council (Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9), Supervisor District 3, 52nd Congressional District, and Chula Vista City Council – District 4.
If you have questions on any of these breakdowns, or would like a breakdown on a specific jurisdiction not listed, please e-mail me at mpherron@gmail.com.
Note: These returns are based on data provided by the Registrar of Voters to Political Data Inc. Accordingly, there is likely a delay of at least 1-2 days relative to the actual number of ballots returned.

Good Sir,
I noticed that the aforementioned issue of the errant cursor has not been fixed. This problem is glaring, and a growing concern among the reader population. Kindly address this matter in your next iteration of your “blog post.”
Warm Regards,
Vince Vasquez
@Alistair
What you think of the cursor placement in the Excel files is not worthy of a conversation here. Seriously, you have to be joking. Your comment was not posted. We know, censorship! Mr. Herron’s email address is right there.
@Alistair
Now it’s what time we post a comment is your concern?
You’re done. You’ve been upset in the past about us calling you a troll. Let’s be clear … you exhibit troll-like behavior. Wasting our time with concerns over cursor placement and the time of day we post, while using a very credible email address like fuckthegop@gmail.com, resulting in having to fish all your comments from the spam filter.
Bye bye. Our site, our decision.
Alistair is now complaining that we violated his privacy and our own rules by posting his email address above.
It’s not a real email address, as we confirmed some time ago, or we wouldn’t have posted it. Just confirmed again…

Wow. Thanks for playing.
Keep up the good work, T.A.
Thanks, Mr. Stocks.
It’s too bad that some commenters aren’t educated enough to know the definition of free speech or where and how the First Amendment correctly applies. People have no more of a right to write here at Rostra than they do demanding the SDUT publish their opinion piece or letter to the editor.
One last comment, as some apparently believe our SDUT analogy above isn’t relevant, since newspapers have limited space while there are no space limitations in the cyber world.
Space limitations are not the only consideration. Resource limitations also come into play.
We reserve the right to block constant pains in the keester from wasting our time. Once again, this has nothing to do with those who may disagree with the political leanings generally found here and have every opportunity to comment, this only has to do with unreasonable trolls who may be purposely trying to suck up our time.
The bottom line is simple. We own the site.
It takes time and energy to deal with constant jackholes. We choose not to.
