If Las Vegas posted numbers on such things, you could have gotten 100-to-1 against the “Voice for Our Kids” parents group last month. They faced a Ponderously-awful change to graduation standards, creating chaos, blocking many students from later reaching College. But in a stunning 5-0 vote late last week, school Trustees ash-canned the Ponderous Plan. Credit to Debra O’Toole and the rest of the madcap, never-say-die “Voice for our Kids” group. As sportscaster Jack Buck said of an equally improbale upset, “I don’t believe what I just saw!”
Giant-Killer Debra O’Toole first told Rostrafarians about the Problem in this post of March 14th. Then on March 28th she asked us to sign an On-line protest petition for presentation to the SD Cityt School Board. Debra says SD Rostra helped drive many new signers to their site, and the petition zoomed past the 1,000 mark.
….. JUBILANT PARENTS CELEBRATE VICTORY
The payoff came last week when the SD Unified Trustees wrote “finis” to a truly bad idea. Debra O’Toole wrote us this jubilant note: “Well we did it! The Board voted unanimously to rescind the CTE graduation requirement. Thank you, SD Rostra, for posting the petition. I’m certain it helped.”
Thank YOU, Debra O’Toole and Voice for Our Kids, for proving again that here, the People Still Rule !
