Latino Advocate Joins DeMaio Campaign as Communications Director
National Latino Advocate & Communications Advisor Joins DeMaio Campaign
Latino advocate K.B. Forbes, who has served as a spokesperson and communications advisor on three U.S. Presidential campaigns and numerous state and local races, has joined the Carl DeMaio campaign as Communications Director.
“Carl DeMaio represents political reform and transparency, and I am honored to be working on one of the most important races in the nation this election cycle,” said Forbes. “I look forward to working with the media and community groups in San Diego and helping elect Carl DeMaio as the next Mayor of San Diego.”
Carl DeMaio noted, “Besides his work in public policy, K.B. has been a leading consumer advocate helping Latinos fight fraud and abuse. I am pleased to have a seasoned communications strategist and accomplished Latino activist on our team.”
Named one of the “20 People who Make Healthcare Better in the United States” by Health Leaders Magazine in 2007, K.B. Forbes is a nationally-recognized consumer advocate who helped expose and bring an end to hospital price gouging of uninsured Latinos.
As founder and Executive Director of the Consejo de Latinos Unidos, a public charity, Forbes has authored nine investigative reports, spurred three Congressional hearings, and worked coast to coast to combat egregious government and corporate behavior.
“I relate very well to Carl DeMaio’s watchdog reputation and reform message,” Forbes added.
Forbes’ work has been profiled in over 400 news articles and on all major networks including CBS’ 60 Minutes. Forbes was credited with a “big win” by The Wall Street Journal for his work on behalf of the Latino community and called a “hero” by the Spanish media.
In May, Forbes successfully shut down a state-sanctioned facility in the Los Angeles area accused of negligence where one of its employees was sent to prison for sexual assaulting several mentally disabled adult children of working-poor Latino families.
Forbes is a public relations, strategic communications, and political consultant with over 20 years of experience. He is a veteran of three Presidential campaigns, having served as Steve Forbes’ Traveling Press Secretary (no relation) in his campaign for the Republican nomination in 2000. On the campaign trail, Forbes traveled to 43 states and dealt with over 2,500 national and local reporters.
This past spring, Forbes served as Campaign Manager of Del Mar Mayor Carl Hilliard’s unsuccessful campaign for San Diego County Supervisor, Third District.
Born and raised in California, Forbes is the son of a Latino immigrant and is fluent in Spanish. He has lived in Chile and Mexico.
