Did Hueso Bite the Hand That Feeds Him or Kiss It?
City Attorney Jan Goldsmith recently filed a lawsuit against the state of California to try to invalidate a new law requiring the city to provide Social Security coverage for its new employees. A measure authored by Assemblymember Ben Hueso.
The real story out of this is that three local labor unions representing white-collar workers, firefighters and lifeguards are joining Goldsmith in the lawsuit.
This is especially fascinating since the head of the San Diego/Imperial labor council supported Hueso’s bill.

Fletcher skips 35 floor votes today, plus controversial tax committee vote
Assemblyman Fletcher maintained his impeccable 70% 71% absence rate today.
The State Assembly voted on 35 proposed laws today, bringing Fletcher’s total missed votes to a whopping 263 this year.
In addition to the floor votes, Assemblyman Fletcher skipped a vote on a controversial tax increase that was voted on in the Revenue and Taxation committee. Assembly Bill 1500 passed the Revenue and Taxation Committee. Fletcher was absent and has refused to state a position on the legislation.
