San Diego City Councilwoman Lorie Zapf announced that her reelection campaign raised more than $128,000 in just 4 weeks. City of San Diego campaign finance rules allow fundraising only after June 3, and the reporting period closed on June 30. In recent history, this is by far the most money raised in the first month of a campaign by any San Diego City Council candidate. Even more impressive, the total only includes individual donations and is not reflective of political party money or candidate loans.

“I am deeply grateful for the show of support for my reelection campaign,” said Zapf. “It means a great deal to me that so many others share my commitment to improving San Diego’s quality of life and bringing common-sense solutions to City Hall.”

Zapf serves in leadership positions as the Chair of the City Council’s Land Use and Housing Committee and as Vice Chair of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee.

Lorie firmly believes that the City has a responsibility to taxpayers to first be “brilliant in the basics”, by providing outstanding neighborhood services, public safety, and infrastructure. Her time at City Hall thus far has been characterized by a demand to streamline bureaucracy, rein in unnecessary spending, and to use those resources to begin restoring key neighborhood services. During her tenure in office the City has been able to end the fire department brownouts, expand hours at parks, libraries, and recreation centers, and, at her urging, establish a police officer retention program. In addition, Lorie has introduced numerous reforms to eliminate or streamline burdensome regulations that hampered the success of our neighborhood businesses.
