As the nine-year “War on Terror” rages onward, high suicide rates, multiple deployments and lack of psychological treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) alarms military personnel and many point to the real cost of the Middle East offensive will be health care after the war has ended. This disparity will likely exact a large toll on the nation’s military readiness in future conflicts.
Several reports including the Rand Study, Harvard Study and Dole-Shalala Commission find that the real cost of the war effort will come long after the fighting has ended and soldiers seek treatment for a myriad of injuries they suffered on the battlefield.
The signature injuries and perhaps the hardest to document are the elusive and well-hidden Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI and PTSD.
When soldiers return from the Middle East they are subjected to a plethora of details that need to be taken care of so they are able to receive adequate treatment, make their adjustment to life outside the battlefield and return to their families.
Since most deployments last months if not more than a year, most returning service members hastily scan through the mountains of paperwork in an effort to get home quickly.
Among the forms each soldier receives is a self-assessment for PTSD. When asked what the questions consist of and how many questions are on the PTSD evaluation form, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Gigail “Gail” Cureton media relations said, “That’s not information we release.”

So your solution is to surrender to Islamo- Fascism?
Will YOU now take the veil, consent to Sharia law,
and support the betrayal of our friend, Israel?
And it is shameful you would repeat the long-discredited
Lie about Suicide rates among Veterans. Check the
facts and you will those rates are comparable to the
Civilian US population.
And did your new best friend Michelle Obama tell you
to put “War on Terror” in quotation marks? We are now
in the 9th Year of America fighting back! The Terrorists
started attacking us in 1992.
Oh my, No Truce…Did you read the entire article? There is much discussion and analysis of the possible solutions and the related dilemmas involved, but at NO POINT do I see Ms. Dvorak suggest that we surrender. In fact, some of those proposing solutions are the very policy-makers that would adamantly agree with you. This piece is not about surrender, it is more about the fact that it’s a given freedom is not free, but that the costs involved impact us all in other ways as well. Those facts in and of themselves do not automatically suggest the author’s solution is a farewell to arms, but perhaps that we should do more for those burdened as a result of them providing us that freedom.
I read what is printed on SD Rosta….”War on Terror” in
quotes…calling it 9 years old, when it traces at least
to the first World Trade Center bomb in 1993, no mention
of how long the Jihadists have been at war with the West,
and worst of all the LIE about high suicide rates.
This is how the distorted picture of the Vietnam Vets
started, multiple distortions making them all look
like drug addicts and killers.
Take another look at the author’s Press release/flack
tribute to Michelle Obama a few days ago.
Please provide a link to the author’s tribute to Michelle Obama. Thank you.
The war with Terror, more correctly stated Islams war with America is much longer than 9 years ago. Our founding fathers dealt with this. Read Power, Faith and Fantasy
America in the Middle east 1776 to present. by Michael B Oren.
It has nothing to do with Gaza or even Israel.
The founders won this by fighting to win. The only way we will win is by allowing our troops to do what they need to do to win. I know I served in Desert Storm. Do yourself a favor read this book.

Title of the shameless PR flack job for Michelle Obama is:
“First lady shows her compassion at Camp Pendleton
Marine base”
Remember this is the Michelle Obama who said she had
never been proud of her country until her husband was
nominated for President.
The flack job continues: “On a sunny and warm afternoon in San Diego, first lady Michelle Obama and her daughters toured the largest military installation in the county, Camp Pendleton, paying special attention to the families of those enlisted in the nine-year war in the Middle East.”
Combined with the subsequent article, which repeats
the outrageous LIE about US soldiers’ suicide rates,
it’s pretty clear where Ms. Dvorak stands on these
issues.
Maybe she can speak for herself this time, but somehow
I doubt it.
