Just like the swallows returning to Capistrano, when a man in a sheep suit is spotted running around San Diego you know it’s time for the annual San Diego County Taxpayers Association Golden Fleece & Golden Watchdog Awards.
Sure enough, the first sighting was made last week. We’ve captured it for you here on San Diego Rostra. This year’s theme: “Alice in Wonderland.” I can’t wait to see who’s going to play the Mad Hatter. The Association has an embarrassment of riches to choose from.
Sometimes the jokes just write themselves… but that’s far too easy so I’m going to allow you the pleasure. So be our guest and have at it!
For those of you who may have just crawled out of a rabbit hole, the SDCTA hosts this event to inform and educate the taxpayers of San Diego County about the good, the bad and the ugly of government efficiency and spending.
Golden Fleeces are given to examples of wasteful, inefficient spending. Golden Watchdog Awards honor programs that exemplify good government practices and efficient use of tax dollars. The Media Watchdog Award honors excellence in reporting on behalf of taxpayers.
While the awards are taken seriously, the participants swallow what little pride they have as they sing and dance their way through the event for your entertainment.
The Golden Fleece & Golden Watchdog Awards take place on Thursday, May 20, at the Town & Country Hotel. Mark your calendar and get your tickets now. Register online here. I’ll see you there. No Libertarian worth her liberties would miss it!
