It may come as little surprise, but State Board of Equalization Member Diane Harkey tonight gained the endorsement of the Orange County Republican Party in the race for the 49th Congressional District.

The word out of the meeting is that only one committee member voted against the motion to endorse Harkey for the seat now held by a retiring Darrell Issa.

The other announced Republicans for the seat (that have a shot), Assemblyman Rocky Chavez and San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, were not in attendance, apparently. Campaign Manager Bill Christiansen spoke to the committee on Gaspar’s behalf.

Harkey previously served as an Orange County Assemblymember from 2008 to 2014, giving her a significant advantage in tonight’s vote.

The 49th Congressional District covers portions of both Orange and San Diego counties.
