The fact that churches have been community meeting places for years in this country and around the world, especially in small communities where they often double as town halls, is lost on some. Anyone ever watch Little House or Mayberry RFD, for instance?
From Santee Patch yesterday…
Grossmont schools Superintendent Ralf Swenson “fully supports” Tuesday night’s meeting at Sonrise Community Church in Santee, rebuffing demands by public-agency watchdog Ray Lutz to cancel the health-information session, the district says.
“The free, nonmandatory parent and student event hosted by the GUHSD Parent Involvement Committee and the Southern California Juvenile Officers Association will continue as scheduled this evening,” said Catherine Martin, spokeswoman for the Grossmont Union High School District.
Swenson will attend the event as well, Martin said.
She said the district’s Parent Involvement Committee regularly hosts forums for parents and students, rotating sites throughout the district.
“In order for regularly scheduled student sports and drama programs to flourish, from time to time, we use outside venues so as not to disrupt student activities,” Martin said in response to a La Mesa Patch query.
She called Sonrise a fixture in the Santee community that is “regularly used as a free meeting facility by community groups every day of the week.”
In a letter to Swenson sent Tuesday afternoon, Lutz of the Citizens’ Oversight Projects wrote…

Lutz is nothing more than a self-promoting, angry media hog. Seriously, if he “found illegal voter guides” in a number of churches where polling places were located,” why hasn’t legal action been taken? These “voter guides” have been openly distributed for years, without even a hint of legal challenge.
If he “can cite several articles showing that having polls in churches does affect the outcome,” why hasn’t her filed this lawsuit? After all, church polling places exist all across the country, in virtually every county. C’mon Ray, why waste your time on small potatoes like Grossmont’s hosting a forum on Healthy Relationships when you can transform electoral politics throughout the country?
Hunger strikes not working any more?
Really now. “The GUHSD has a history of infiltration by religious activists and this is just one more example of a trend that must stop.” It would nice to provide just a little evidence of such grandiose statements.
Please… Can the Democratic Party please get someone else to run against Duncan Hunter? This guy is an embarrassment to the free thinking people in East County.
Mr. Lutz wrote in his letter:
“If the event cannot be canceled, please request that all literature and attempts at proselytizing are eliminated, as much as possible at this event.”
Hey Mr. Lutz, those green things in your wallet and bank account issued by the U.S. Government say “In God We Trust.” So since that could be construed as proselytizing, you are more than welcome to give them all to me. It does not bother me one bit. I am just a good Samaritan trying to prevent you from being proselytized by the government!
It’s hard to expect more than this kind of gimmickry from someone whose slogan in the last campaign was, “You’d have to be nuts to vote against Lutz.”
I’ve seen a lot of tricks used by candidates over the years to try to keep their name in the paper in between suicide-runs for political office, but this one makes clear he’s not exactly ready for prime time.
Mr. Lutz’ website features some “Upcoming Events” including the showing of a film that highlights “…inconsistencies in the official story of 9/11, and the problem with our monetary system.”
Wow — attacking East County churches while promoting 9/11 conspiracy theories. Nope, not ready for prime time.
Couldn’t help noticing the Rostra post immediately preceding this one…

“Will The Real Nazis Please Stand Up?”
Indeed.
Geeze Lutz.. What’s up your….
Oh, now I remember…an enema.
Rostra-farians may remember this other Larkin post about Lutz:

If I was a movie critic, I’d write in my review “I laughed until I cried. A side-splitting, laugh a minute ride!” Guys like Lutz are worth their weight in proselytizing precious metal. Now I don’t have to stay up late tonight for my daily comedy fix. Thanks, Ray!
