Got an email from a friend to a friend to me this morning… Councilwoman Marti Emerald went to a San Carlos community meeting last night, chewing a double wad of gum the whole time. The crowd was not exactly friendly. The highlights:
Marti took some time to attack the Ethics Commission for picking on her… that they were being unfair about actually investigating complaints against her! She also blamed the Boling for Council campaign for filing the complaint… and since old Mr. Murphy knows exactly who filed the complaint I can assure Marti that the actual filer is much, much more amusing.
Then Marti got in a brawl with the locals over outsourcing city services (remember – we voters passed that a few years ago and the union dominated council, including Marti, have been blocking it and costing us millions of dollars a year in the process). Marti said that the whole process of outsourcing was ‘unfair’ to city bureaucrats – no mention of how unfair her stalling is to taxpayers and the voting public.
Much talk, in private and in public, at the meeting about Marti’s fake ‘Advisory Council’ and her failure to listen to anyone in the community outside her insiders. One comment repeated in the email “She thinks she knows everything, and makes sure we know that’s what she thinks.”

yeah emerald actually got into it with a few members of the audience last night. i was just there to tape her, but she basically shut down Q and A with folks who were getting angry over her not listening and other that outsourcing thing. She left after a while and man were people pissed off.
Hey, by the way, remember me Marti from the SDSU campus? I wasn’t involved so much before but thanks to your rudeness to the guys at the CR booth I am now. Hmmm…. maybe I’ll apply for an internship…
Well, I’m not sure I’d phrase it the way you did ‘Was There’, and I wasn’t there, but I heard much the same.
Marti, can’t you grow up. Council isn’t about ideology, it’s about doing the job.

she was elected AS A LIBERAL. what makes you think now she should govern any different?
Perhaps Murphy thinks the council is made up of only Marti Emerald. Just sayin’.

To clarify, I have no problems with the Marti information and holding her to higher expectations, which Murphy has done very well. In addition to that, I’d like to see the Rostra bloggers in the know shine some light on some of the others at city hall.
I remember attending many San Carlos Community Council meetings in the early 1990’s at the local library and seeing Judy McCarty there fielding questions and interacting with the community. I did not agree with her 100% of the time but she was a class act and a true representative of the community. I’m saddened to hear things have deteriorated under Emerald but frankly I’m not surprised. Hopefully the four years will go quickly.
