San Diego Chargers go on the attack in stadium campaign
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Chargers are back on the attack – and it has nothing to do with their preseason game Friday night against Arizona.
The team instead has come out swinging against a local political opponent, City Councilman Chris Cate, who says the team’s proposal to build a new stadium is a bad deal for taxpayers.
The team’s campaign committee recently has circulated paid advertisements on Facebook that sic the dogs on him.
Here’s some of the reaction to the “strategic” move by the Chargers. We couldn’t pick a favorite. So, they’re in order by length!…
“Idiots” — Aaron Byzak
“Path of most resistance” — Jeff Powell
“I like the sound of L.A. Chargers.” — Thomas K. Arnold
“Wow. A new low for Mark Fabiani.” — Barrett Tetlow
“Really bizarre strategy from the Chargers” — James Hauser
“Another bad decision in a long line of bad decisions.” — April Boling
“I really think they want to move to LA with this move.” — Marc Schaefer
“I detect the fingerprints of Tom Shepard on this strategy.” — Tom Geldner
“These guys don’t have any intention of staying in San Diego. Clowns.” — Jason Roe
“‘No no, trust us- we took Nathan Fletcher’s How To Win Campaigns class!’ -The Chargers” — Sara Kamiab
“The Chargers shameless tactics didn’t work last year and they won’t work this year either.” — No Downtown Stadium
“Another instance of Charger strategy gone wrong, sometimes I feel like they are trying to leave…” — Michael Hadland
“As a charger season holder since 1978, and cancelled this year due to their bullshit attitude towards taxpayers … I will be voting NO on any stadium downtown.” — Scott Hassan
“What a dumb PR strategy. These guys are clueless. They might want to take a look at the Padres’ positive approach from their ’98 ballpark campaign.” — Darren Pudgil
“Reason #37 the Petco Park measure passed in 1998, but the Chargers’ proposal will fail now: The Padres had Tony Gwynn at the time. The Chargers … Mark Fabiani.” — Barry Jantz
“Shameful intimidation tactics. Clearly they have no idea who they are dealing with or that they’re on the wrong side of the issue. Whistling past the graveyard much Chargers?” — Tony Krvaric
“Charming outfit, this Charger organization. Meantime, they’re having their all-too-frequent brouhaha with their first round draft pick. When one ‘guy’ is always getting into fights with just about everyone, it’s clear who’s the problem.” – Bill Moody
“The baseless lies by the San Diego Chargers against class-act Councilman Chris Cate are the definition of slander … They have crossed the line by MILES and it’s time for the citizens and fans to asks themselves, do the Chargers have the players’ and fans’ best interests at heart? #VoteNoOnPropC” — SDSU College Republicans

Spanos has written a new book “How to Lose friends and Influence nobody”
I have to say I’m not 100% educated on this entire situation but I can not see anyway that this build can happen and not have some cost to taxpayers. With San Diego’s huge homeless population and the constant struggle to fund programs that help those in need around the community, I cant see any reason to spend money on a stadium when the old one works just fine.
I thought the Chargers left San Diego for greener pastures several times…..why are they still around ….trying to scrounge the last buck out of the taxpayer.
Mr Spanos just raise the rents on your 5,000 + apartments and pay for your own stadium, or spend some of that 1.1 BILLION you have.

Haha Krvaric: they’re dealing with the brain trust that lost a mayor’s race to Bob Filner…with Filner literally and figuratively waving his dick at anything that moved.
