City Council member Steve Vaus today announced he will run for Poway Mayor in the November 2014 election.
“I’ve been on City Council since 2012 and I’d be the first to admit things in Poway are pretty good, but we can be better. We need a mayor with innovative
ideas, with the time and willingness to personally connect with the community. Then Poway can go from good to great,” Vaus said in a video distributed by his campaign (watch it at the link below).
“The efforts I’ve spearheaded – Poway Secret Service, a first of its kind community service alert; the substance abuse town hall meeting; free business licenses for veterans; promoting Poway in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce – all of those have moved us forward, made us better. And my weekly email newsletter, monthly coffees, the fact that I publicize my personal cell phone number — all leave no doubt I take the servant part of being a public servant seriously,” Vaus continued.
Background:
Steve Vaus currently serves on Poway’s City Council. He created Poway Secret Service, founded the e-newsletter Poway Now, and serves as an Alternate Board Member on the San Dieguito River Park Joint Powers Authority. Steve previously served as the Chairman of the Poway Budget Review Committee, Executive Director of the Poway Community Leadership Institute, and Chairman of the Poway Citizens Substance Abuse Task Force. Steve also is a member of the Poway Chamber of Commerce.
Steve and his wife Corrie own VausMedia, specializing in video and audio marketing services. Steve also is a Grammy award-winning artist. He and Corrie have been married and lived in Poway for 21 years. Their two children, Anna and Jacob, attend Poway High School.

Steve Vaus is a good man and I am pleased that he is running for Mayor. Steve offers innovative solutions in government (Secret Service), a proactive approach to problem solving (community forums on city budget priorities), and is a “fusion guy” that brings different groups in our city together for a common cause (town halls on teen drug abuse). I look forward to seeing Poway progress under Steve’s leadership. Should be an exciting local campaign season!

Higginson is already playing ugly. He sent his son’s high school buddy and business partner, to malign Vaus on the UTSanDiego article (linked above).
“Kevin Swain” is suggesting that he wasn’t sure who he would support until he saw a Vaus YouTube article about the 2nd Amendment. He extrapolates Steve’s strong 2A views to crazy town (with some logical fallacies thrown is)
Who is “Kevin Swain”? His Facebook page suggests he is aka “Darrell Swain”. who is business partners in PictureThis with his high school buddy Matt Higginson, the Mayor’s son.
Small town politics can get ugly. I guess Higginson is willing to go ugly early
