Businesswoman and Councilwoman Farrah Douglas Announces for State Assembly
Martin Garrick, Matt Hall, Pam Slater-Price, Tom Sudberry to Serve as Campaign Co-Chairs

(Carlsbad, Calif.) – Carlsbad City Councilwoman Farrah Douglas has announced her candidacy for California State Assembly. A successful small businesswoman and recognized community leader, her campaign will be chaired by some of regions most important leaders as she pursues a pro-growth economic agenda and sensible spending policies in Sacramento.

Assemblyman Martin Garrick, the incumbent who is retiring due to term limits and is the former Assembly Republican Leader; Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall, who works closely with Douglas on the City Council; County Supervisor Pam Slater-Rice, retiring from the Board of Supervisors after 16 years; and businessman and former Lincoln Club Chairman Tom Sudberry will all serve as co-chairs of her campaign.

“Since being elected to the City Council, I have seen first-hand how destructive the policies coming out of Sacramento are to local government, business, and our ability to create and retain jobs in California,” said Douglas. “Carlsbad is an example of government that works yet we continue to fight against the Sacramento’s anti-job policies and that is why I decided to run for Assembly. I want to add my voice – as a businesswoman and local elected official – to the debate over California’s policies and the need to create jobs.”

“As I end my service in the State Assembly, I would like to see the region continue to be represented by someone that knows what it takes to meet a payroll and knows first-hand how difficult it is to compete in a state that over-taxes, over-spends, and over-regulates,” said Garrick, “that person is Farrah Douglas and I am proud to serve as campaign co-chairman.”

“I have worked closely with Farrah on the City Council and have been impressed with her approach to government and her ability to bring people together to find solutions,” said Hall. “As the mayor of Carlsbad, I am committed to Farrah’s campaign and know she will be an impact-player in Sacramento.”

“Farrah is an accomplished leader in the region and we need more powerful female voices for the Republican Party,” said Slater-Price. “Farrah understands the issues facing North County and will be an effective advocate for policies that help us create jobs, protect our natural resources, and improve our quality of life.”

“Sacramento is doing everything it can to chase jobs to Texas, Nevada, and other business-friendly states,” said Sudberry. “When you look at what is happening here in California, it is hard to ignore the fact that much of the economic pain is self-inflected. As a businesswoman, Farrah understands this and will fight to change the direction we are going.”

Douglas and her husband Rick, and their young son, fled Iran during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. They have lived in Oceanside and Carlsbad for three decades and own a printing business. The San Diego Business Journal named Farrah one of 2009’s “Women Who Mean Business” and Congressman Darrell Issa awarded her his Outstanding Community Service Award. In her victorious election to the Carlsbad City Council, she raised over $125,000 and is the highest vote-getter in Carlsbad history.

“I am humbled to have the support of people that have done so much to positively affect North County and the region. I will work very hard to be deserving of their support, and the support of the people of the 76th District,” said Douglas.
