A Groggy Morning
I’ll admit it… to write these posts I have to get my older friend a little snookered. Worse, his tolerance for scotch is stronger than mine. I’m dragging today, but I want to publish before I lose my breakfast. Of note from this conversation with ‘The Barkeep’:
“Look at this (he produced a letter from his pocket from the Tierrasanta Community Council). Know what this is? It’s a letter from one of the big neighborhoods in Emerald’s district, to her and the Mayor and all the other knuckleheads down there demanding they do that managed competition thing. I got it shoved in my door screen with a note last night that said ‘Marti Emerald is on the wrong side for Tierrasanta, again’. I’m saying this because over the years I’ve seen various politicians who sit in districts that have bad voter registration for them move to the edges issue wise to cater to their more partisan supporters and I rarely see it work. Look at this Council, for instance. You got Faulconer who gots a Democrat district, he moves to the left. Smart. You’ve got Lightner who gots a kind of Republican district, she moves right. smart. All the others pretty much represent districts that match them. Except Emerald. Her district tends to lean to the right. But she keeps moving to the left, on managed competition, on big spending projects, on who she supports in political races. Not so smart. You can only be on the wrong side of history for so long if you try to fight the wind rather than bend a bit.”
This, of course, was not recorded so it’s a foggy memory… but pretty accurate. He had a few more observations I’ll try to get to over the weekend. For now, off to the aspirin bottle.

Drink some water before you go to bed.
Your, or his, point is well taken. Politicians need to represented a winning majority in their district, not a smaller subgroup.
Emerald isn’t pragmatic like Falconer or Lighner, she was and is more ideological.
She is asking for a recall. Seriously.
Emerald isn’t so much ideological as inexperienced. I’ll take that any day over Elena Ceauşescu (oops, I meant Donna Frye). And Lightner isn’t pragmatic, she’s just obtuse.
Another alcoholic republican. Shocking.
