National Women Veterans Association of America removes Mayor Bob Filner as Lifetime of Leadership Award Benefit Gala Honoree

San Diego, California. On August 30-31, 2013 at the US Grant Hotel 325 Broadway San Diego, California, The National Women Veterans Association of America was to hold a lifetime of leadership awards ceremony for Mayor Bob Filner and his work on behalf of military women veterans, healthcare, and unique needs of the entire veteran population. Mayor Filner served as the senior ranking member of the Department of Veteran Affairs Committee for over 25 years.

Due to the recent events of allegations of sexual harassment, admission of inappropriate behavior by the Mayor and his personal cry for help, National Women Veterans Association of America has removed the mayor from being honored at the benefit gala to support the Military Sexual Assault Community. He is now the keynote speaker on these injustices. President Tara Jones states, “We do not tolerate sexual discrimination at any level within our society.” On July 20, 2013 at 2730 Historic Decatur Road Barracks 16 Suite 205 10:00 am there will be a national press conference where our president and founder will speak on this topic. We encourage other women organizations and groups to join our efforts to support violence against women and children, eradicate sexual assault in our military branches of service, and deter sexual harassment/discrimination within our overall society. nationalwomenveterans.us

  2. You are joking! What an insult to any woman, but most of all our servicewomen who have been insulted and assaulted by superiors or other service members. Filner is the poster boy. Hopefully he will be booed out off the podium. Shame on you! Did you not read or listen to his admission of reprehensible behavior towards women? Why not give him an award too? I am witnessing hypocritical in its finest form here.

  3. Thank God for the SEALs, Marines, and libertarians. A coalition of them questioned NWVAA about Filner’s award earlier this week. Apparently, their questions were enough for the group (who endorsed Filner early) to not give him the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

NOW (who endorsed Filner) called for his resignation. One would think that NWVAA could still “support” the Mayor’s plea for “due process” without retaining him as the keynote speaker.

I think they are a small group with good goals. My take is that the leadership is (perhaps intentionally) not that politically savvy. They are about to get a lot more savvy in the next 3 weeks

  4. Their motto says “We own it”…Anyone else see the irony there? Has Filner “owned ” any of his actions so far? Paid lip service, yes, but owned? His latest talking points have been to say he “doesn’t think he’s guilty of sexual harassment.” This is their keynote? Wow!

  5. Man, things change quickly. Latest report is they’ve scrapped him altogether from the program.

Nothing has been stated on their Facebook page since yesterday’s press release was posted there. Please post any announcement you’ve seen.

  7. I just spoke with Mrs Jones, the President. As of now, he will be speaking and he will be discussing these issues. I”m not so sure the audience will be friendly. Mrs Jones seems like a “no nonsense” lady.
