The California Farm Bureau has endorsed Rocky Chavez.

Sept. 25, 2012

A candidate with a history of service and a commitment to economic development, Rocky Chavez, has earned the endorsement of the state’s largest farming organization in his bid for the state Assembly. Chavez, R-Oceanside, seeks election in the 76th Assembly District, representing northern San Diego County.

“San Diego County is a unique and important agricultural region, and Rocky Chavez has the background and experience to represent the area well in the Assembly,” California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said.

Noting that Chavez worked on farms during college to pay for his education, Wenger said Chavez’s experience with the day-to-day demands of farm life “gave him firsthand knowledge of how hard work leads to success.”

A veteran of 28 years in the Marine Corps, Chavez is a former Oceanside City Council member who also served as undersecretary and acting secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs.

“Rocky Chavez has shown a commitment to his community through his military service, his active involvement in community affairs and his work on behalf of veterans,” Wenger said. “Rocky’s time in the Department of Veterans Affairs also gave him insight into how to make government more efficient and accountable. We look forward to working with him in the Assembly.”

The California Farm Bureau Federation works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of more than 74,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 6.2 million Farm Bureau members.
