Following his recent press release criticizing the Republican Party of San Diego, 52nd District Congressional candidate James Veltmeyer recants… April 16, 2018 A recent media release was sent out critical of the San Diego County Republican Party. Let me state unequivocally that I regret the actions of my campaign. Let me also be crystal clear that I take full responsibility. As …
Congressman Scott Peters: Pick Your Racist Ass Up Off The Floor
Scott Peters is a waste of space. One of the reasons I never got too worked up about him is because he has occupied the back bench of Congress for four years and has done nothing. I like legislators who do nothing because it generally means my life, liberty, or property isn’t in peril. But Scott Peters, like his henchwoman Maryann …

The continuing gun debate in CA-52; Atkinson responds
On December 19, an article in The San Diego Union-Tribune, “Peters, opponents grapple over gun restrictions,” outlined the disparate views on Second Amendment issues between Congressman Scott Peters and his opponents in the 52nd District. Two days later, December 21, the SDUT followed up with an editorial, taking Republican congressional candidate Denise Gitsham to task for not responding on the …

The Peters-DeMaio Battleground Precincts
From Vince Vasquez, Senior Policy Analyst at National University System Institute for Policy Research (and Rostra contributor)… click for a larger image “I’ve looked at CA52 “battleground precincts” — areas where the majority of voters supported Peters for Congress and DeMaio for Mayor in 2012. You had cross-over voters, Independent voters, a significant number of people who could be swayed …
The Wrath of Khan
From Vince Vasquez, Senior Policy Analyst at National University System Institute for Policy Research (and Rostra contributor)… click for a separate image Just cranked out a map of ballots counted thus far by the Registrar for CA52, by precinct. Scott Peters cut decisively into Carl DeMaio territory, won battleground precincts. Peters won battleground precincts in South University City, Clairemont, North …
Will California’s Voters Set A New Record for Apathy?
How low can they go? California’s voters set a record low of 51 percent voter turnout in 2002. Political pollster John Nienstedt, president of Competitive Edge Research & Communication, made his final voter turnout prediction for Tuesday’s midterm election at the witching hour on Election Eve. Read his prediction here, then weigh in on whether he’s high, low, or right …
HuffPo: GOP Candidate Carl DeMaio Cleared Of Sexual Harassment Claims
“DeMaio spokesman Dave McCullough said in an email that the campaign was glad Dumanis found Bosnich’s ‘politically-motivated smears are without merit.’ He did not comment on her decision not to prosecute the burglary.” Read it all here.
Kick or Punt, Ms. Dumanis.
Citizens need closure on the recent allegations against Carl DeMaio. Last week, Todd Bosnich accused the former San Diego City Council Member and U.S. House candidate of sexual harassment. If true, DeMaio has no business holding public office. The timing of this claim is suspect. The accuser’s decision to lodge the complaint in the media, rather than through law enforcement, …
Scott Peters: Petty Bully Who Seeks To Balkanize San Diego With The “Tea Party Extremist” Label
Let’s start with this; there is no “tea party”. There is a “tea party movement,” there are “tea party groups,” there are “tea party activists” and there are “people who agree with tea party principles.” In that tea party movement, there are libertarians, social conservatives, immigration activists, fiscal conservatives, Second Amendment defenders, and other conservative-leaning Americans. While I haven’t seen …
Poll indicates “enthusiasm gap” is favoring DeMaio over Peters
A survey released today by the Republican Party of San Diego County notes that likely voters in the nationally-watched race between Congressman Scott Peters and GOP challenger Carl DeMaio are more enthusiastic about supporting Republican candidates than they are Democrats. The 16 percent margin between GOP and Dem favored candidates, often called the “enthusiasm gap,” is significant in a competitive …
Christian Republicans for Scott Peters?
This week a number of my friends, well respected Christian leaders, wrote a public letter encouraging Christ followers to vote for the Democrat incumbent Scott Peters in the 52nd Congressional District race instead of the endorsed Republican, Carl DeMaio. They did so on the basis of a moral issue – his position on same sex marriage. As a Christ follower …
Minimum Wage Referendum – Expected and Desired (UPDATED)
San Diego’s 10News is reporting that a campaign to repeal an expected rise in the minimum wage is being organized by the San Diego Small Business Coalition. (I urge you to “like” their Facebook page.) San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer vetoed the measure, but the San Diego City Council is expected to override it. If that happens, Jason Roe, spokesman …
CA-52 Getting Interesting – #ACA Toxicity
To see the impact of the health care law’s implosion on political campaigns, look no further than my own 52nd Congressional district here in San Diego. Scott Peters, the incumbent,is expected to face a tough re-election campaign against the well-known Carl DeMaio. (I supported DeMaio for Mayor last year.) While DeMaio has a Republican primary to get past, his high …
Lori Saldaña Will Probably Never Answer the Question About the San Diego Democratic Party
Ex-Mayor Bob Filner is now a convicted felon. This is no surprise to people who have been following the Filner saga. As each layer of the onion was peeled off, the “monster within” (Filner’s description of his problem) had a history of prolonged abuse of women. What was a rumor on Capitol Hill became reality as he campaigned in the …
Bob Filner, Scott Peters, and their “bad behavior bailout”
From the NRCC… Just this week, the Scott-Peters-endorsed Mayor of San Diego, Bob Filner, asked taxpayers to foot the bill for his legal fees in the sexual harassment case filed by one of his top aides. The City said no. While the City is pushing back on Filner, this should remind us of a certain other San Diego politician, Scott …
Did Filner and Peters Break Up?
Late last night Red State reported on the interesting dynamic between Scott Peters and the Filner scandals. The point is after weeks of silence, Peters responded to criticism by removing almost every reference to Bob Filner from his website. Yikes! I don’t know if that’s more embarrassing for Peters or Filner but the entire incident certainly reflects poorly on the …
Fix the Leak Redux
If the boat is leaking, does one figure out what to do with the new supply of water, or does one first stop the leak? We will never know if the amiable fellow with a disarming smile would have reached us up here in North County. Or if he would have robbed, or beaten, or attempted to kill someone had …
DeMaio v Peters?
Rostra is best when we’re gossiping about possible campaign matchups. It looks like this possible local matchup is already getting attention in DC.
