Some Unsolicited Advice for Carl DeMaio

Guest Response
by Karen Grube

This is in response to Michael Schwartz’s post, Some Unsolicited Advice for Kirk Jorgensen:

1. On the day after the election, graciously accept defeat and endorse Kirk Jorgensen, then tell the Republican Party of San Diego to do the same.

2. Donate time and money to Kirk’s campaign. Not token, meaningless stuff. I mean real time and real money.

3. Take all that you have built while campaigning and take your efforts back to the private sector where you can best have the influence you want. You’re good at that. You’re just not good at public policy.

4. Don’t release some ridiculous statement about how the Republican Party needs to change and become more moderate anyway, with a list of excuses for not winning, like religious zealots and homophobic haters. Voters all have their own reasons for voting the way they do. Some of us lived in your Council District and simply didn’t like how you handled that office or your failed run for Mayor. Some of us simply disagree strongly with you on the issues.

5. Don’t disappear, but go lobby your supporters in Palm Springs, Florida, and Washington D.C. to support you in your private sector efforts, but please don’t plan a future in politics. Follow Nathan Fletcher’s lead on that.

6. Take Kirk out to lunch and thank him for his service to our country. Invite along Tony Krvaric and Doug Manchester and get them to support Kirk’s candidacy during his three terms as our Congressman.
