New ratings show San Diegans were #1 in the USA when it came to following the American soccer team at this year’s World Cup.
National ratings were up 40% from 2006, with 15 million fans watching for a national rating of 8.2.
San Diego viewers, however, nearly doubled that with a rating of 15, the highest in the USA.
The American team won its group against England, Slovenia and Algeria before losing to Ghana.
The USA also was First last year in qualifying from the CONCACAF region, Central America, Mexico and North America.
Landon Donovan’s dramatic last-gasp goal to beat Algeria, 1-0, will long be remembered by fans of America in international sports. (Hat tip to Bloomberg for TV ratings)
Congratulations to Coach Bob Bradley and the 2010 USA World
Cup team for representing our country well!
