A new Field Poll released today revealed that San Diego voters are more likely to state they are going through tough economic times than any other region in California. However, county voters remain largely optimistic about our state’s future economic recovery. Among the findings:
- A whopping 71% of San Diego voters say they are financially worse off today than a year ago, compared to 59% of statewide voters who responded the same way;
- Nearly all SD and California voters agree that economically, the Golden State is in “bad times” (96% and 95%, respectively);
- More than 3 out of 4 (77.5%) San Diego County voters believe that state unemployment is a “very serious” problem;
- Expressing glimmers of optimism, almost half (49.4%) of the local electorate believes that job opportunities in California will get better in 2011, a stark contrast to overall state voters (31.1%). Additionally, more than a 1/3 (35%) of San Diego voters believed that this year would see improvements in our economic conditions, compared to 29% of total voters in the poll sample who said the same.
