“With the 100th anniversary of former President Ronald Reagan’s birthday (February 6th) quickly approaching, local efforts are underway to recognize February 6th as ‘Ronald Reagan Day’ in three municipal governments in San Diego County.

San Diego County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price, Oceanside Councilman Gary Felien, and San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio will all introduce official proclamations, honoring the legacy and accomplishments of the 40th President of the United States in their respective government agencies.

Events throughout the country will be held beginning February 6th to mark the Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration. Last year, 27 state governments recognized Ronald Reagan Day, including the state of California.

“Many people know that Reagan nicknamed San Diego his ‘lucky city,’ but few are aware of his strong ties to San Diego County,” said Tony Krvaric, Chairman of the Republican Party of San Diego County. “Recognizing Ronald Reagan Day is a valuable opportunity to share Reagan’s connection to our community with younger generations.”

Research completed this year found that Ronald Reagan’s ties to the San Diego region extended beyond his presidency:

The media is welcome to attend the Ronald Reagan Day proclamation ceremonies. The following is the schedule for when the Reagan Day proclamations will be introduced:

“As governor and president, Ronald Reagan visited our region frequently, and helped shape the face of San Diego,” said Krvaric. “On the eve of the Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration, I am pleased to support these efforts by local government officials.”
