It was another lively GOP event this evening, and with SD Rostra’s own Richard Rider the lead-off featured speaker! Among those attending were SD City Councilman Carl DeMaio, Escondido City Councilwoman Marie Waldron, and San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis. Rider gave much credit to GOP Chairman Tony Krvaric for his conversion to the Republican cause (see quote above) and Republican willingness to reach out to him.
……..Faces in the Republican Crowd
Working the crowd at the Rancho Bernardo Inn were two SD mayoral hopefuls, with early-arriving Bonnie Dumanis relaxed and at ease as she greeted Republican activists. Carl DeMaio drew a crowd of enthusiastic supporters when he appeared a little later. And backers of Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher manned an information table for their candidate (who presumably is locked down with the State Budget drama).
Waldron told SD Rostra’s inquiring reporter that she has good news coming about the annual Escondido city budget, which will be balanced and maintain all vital services. Smart Rostrafarians will look for another posting soon by Councilwoman Waldron with all the details on how that difficult achievement was reached. Gov. Jerry Brown himself could learn a thing or two from the thrifty and resilient Ms. Waldron !

Reporter’s Notebook: Once again we were treated to the sight of Republicans simultaneously applauding and pinching themselves as their sometimes critic (Mr. Rider) received a “Welcome New Republican” award from the diplomatic Tony Krvaric. If you think it’s easy to applaud and pinch yourself at the same time, just try it !
