IT’S NOT THE “LEFT COAST” ANY MORE: REPUBLICANS RETAKE STATUS AS LARGEST PARTY IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY

Democrats lose control in America’s fifth largest county as Republicans surge in voter registration

SAN DIEGO — In the latest sign of a Republican Party on the rise in California, Republicans surged past Democrats last month to become the largest party in San Diego County – the fifth largest county in America and second largest in California.

The latest report from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters shows that within the last month Democrats lost their majority party status as Republicans turned a deficit of -4,850 voters into a plurality margin of +891.

Republicans surging to the largest party in San Diego County is a powerful sign of the rising Republican tide,” said California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring.  “It’s not the left coast any more.

San Diego becomes the fourth county on California’s Pacific Coast where Republicans are the largest political party.

When Democrats took the county in 2008, they boasted that demographics would ensure the county remains in Democrat hands for decades.

So much for that idea,” said San Diego Republican Chairman Tony Krvaric.  “Democrats in San Diego have been busy turning control of local government over to public employee unions.  The shameful Proposition D is just the latest example.  Voters are rejecting them in the same way voters across the country are rejecting the Democrat’s governing agenda in Washington.

The California Republican Party has spent over $2.2 million registering Republican voters since October 2009.  The party registered more than 26,000 new Republican voters in San Diego County.

Any Democrat plans for the national Republican wave to miss California have been officially cancelled,” said Nehring.
