Today (May 23) Republican Party of San Diego Chairman Tony Krvaric filed suit in SD Superior Court, seeking to correct publicly-revealed problems with the current SD Redistricting Commission process. City voters approved a non-partisan commission in 1992 (61% yes) proposed by then-Mayor Maureen O’Connor, and backed by then-councilman Ron Roberts. The first Commission (2000-01) faced very little controversy, and the map they drew produced competitive, close elections through the last decade.*

………Competitive Districts Prove Nonpartisan 2001 Commission got it Right
The proof is in the Pudding, or in this case, the Voting. The genuinely nonpartisan 2000-01 City Redistricting Commission deserves a Blue Ribbon for the job they did, leading to fair election contests for the last 10 years.
*City Council District 6 flipped from Demo to GOP in 2010 (Lorie Zapf). District 2 switched twice: from GOP to Demo (2002- Mike Zucchet) and then back to the GOP in 2006 (Kevin Faulconer). District 7 went from GOP to Demo in 2008 (Marti Emerald) . District 1 flipped from GOP to Democrat (Scott Peters).
