Respected retired Congressman Duncan L. Hunter will address Monday night’s meeting of the GOP Central Committee in Point Loma at 7 pm. The special forces Army Ranger and Vietnam veteran who rose to be Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (2003-07) will discuss his new book (see above) which declares Victory in Iraq and gives an insiders’ view of how that fight was finally won.
Duncan Hunter was a total unknown in 1980 when he scored a shocking upset win over 9-term Rep. Lionel Van Deerlin (D) in a South Bay-based district. His father Robert O. Hunter, and consultant Harvey Hukari were major factors in aiding that stunning result.
Hunter’s new book on the improbable triumph of Democracy in Iraq is a real page-turner, with the plain-spoken, no-nonsense style that typifies its author. The price is just $20, and if you are intersted, you can order directly from Hunter here: http://www.victoryiniraqbook.com/
……….Why Duncan Hunter is so Special
Many freshmen members of Congress go to Washington pledging to change things, but instead find that Washington has changed them. Duncan L. Hunter has never changed. Your correspondent first made his acquaintance in the early 1980s, and he is the same, down-to-earth, friendly, humble man today he was back then.
If you’ve only heard his name, and never actually heard him, stop by the Kona Kai club on Monday. It will be like listening to San Diego’s version of “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” with Duncan Hunter playing the role made famous by his fellow combat veteran Jimmy Stewart (Stewart flew 25 missions piloting a B-17 against Hitler in WWI, and that was no movie! )
