Let’s start here:
1- Pro-business does not equal pro-market.
2- Pro-business does not equal pro-individual rights
3- Pro-business does not necessarily support the American sovereignty.
4- Pro-business does not necessarily support the free enterprise system
“Pro-business” organizations usually support the status quo. They often support protectionist policies which raise the barriers of entry and dissuade competition…. unless that competition is for labor. Then, “pro-business organizations” support lower barriers of entry to the labor market (specifically from foreign nationals) which drives labor costs down for the business members of the status quo. “Pro-business” organizations pursue political profits rather than political principles”
Pro-business organizations don’t care about: your natural right to defend your life from criminals, invaders, or tyrants, your natural right to privacy, your natural right to acquire, develop, and enjoy property, and your natural right to free commerce.
Pro-business organizations support the commerce and interests of its member businesses much like labor unions support the interests if its membership. Oftentimes, pro-business organizations and labor unions find common interest in policies (and candidates) which restrict competition and drive up costs to the consumers.
This is why the proper role of government is to (a) secure the individual rights of its citizenry and (b) protect the citizenry from domestic and international force and fraud.
If you are a Pro-Liberty citizen (agree with the definition of the proper role of government), you will sometimes find your efforts congruent with “pro-business” organizations. More times than not, you will find yourself conflicted with the interests of a “pro-business organization. So be it.
When “pro-business organizations” are aligned with your political goals, use them. They often disguise their pro-business positions with pro-Liberty causes so use them to advance your cause but never deceive yourself that they are aligned with you. They are “pro-business” and, if your political principles are aligned with their political profits, they will use you. .
What then, should you do when a “pro-business organization” supports statist (anti-Liberty) causes and candidates? Milton Friedman once said. “You make it politically profitable, to make the wrong people, do the right things“. Pro-business organizations don’t support political principles, they support political profits. Help them to see that supporting your political principles produces political profits. Make them wear the big, red S around their necks until they see how unprofitable their support for statism is.
