POLITICS IN PARADISE A “CAN’T MISS” EVENT ON FRIDAY NIGHT

Sounds like the recipe for a great evening. It’s called “Politics in Paradise” and it happens this Friday night at the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College.
Each summer, the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce assembles a bipartisan panel of San Diego’s elected representation from the Federal, State and County levels to update us on their priorities, interact and mingle with guests, and handle questions directly from their constituents (you!) during the important legislative panel discussion.
And you don’t have to be a “political insider” to be a part of the event. In fact, this informative and powerful evening provides local residents incredible access to some of our region’s most powerful political players, while set in a lush outdoor setting on a warm Summer evening.
This year’s event has an expanded program…and in the last 100 days of an intriguing election cycle that is really heating up, it will be even more riveting.
The Chamber is excited to announce that Congressman Bob Filner, State Senator Joel Anderson, State Assemblyman Brian Jones and San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob will be sharing their views and priorities, discussing how Congress, the state legislature and the County are treating businesses. In this partisan environment, this discussion should be enlightening and a bit controversial.
The second part of the program features what promises to be a spirited debate between San Diego County Republican Party Chair Tony Krvaric and County Democratic Party Chair Jess Durfee. They will be discussing the factors and philosophical differences on three controversial ballot measures that will be on the statewide ballot in November.
Two of the issues include Gov. Brown’s proposed quarter-cent sales tax hike (Prop 30) and the measure that would prohibit forced employee payroll deductions for union and other political action efforts (Prop. 32).
A third issue that will be discussed is Prop. 36, which would revise the “Three Strikes Law” to impose life sentences only for certain serious or violent crimes.
The program follows an hour of networking, partaking in a delicious multi-national buffet and refreshing adult beverages…all for the nominal cost of $35 for Chamber members and $50 for non-Chamber members.
The exquisite Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College will once again serve as the venue for the event, complete with hosted beer and wine and delicious food during the cocktail hour.
