Politics 101 in the Mayor’s race: Stay on Message

The following missive from one of the “lesser known” candidates for mayor, addressed to one of the higher profile contestants via Facebook, may shed some light on why it’s best to have a good communications pro on your campaign team.

Names and a couple of other specifics have been removed (no need to embarrass him), but after reading this, I’m still trying to figure out:

Here’s the Facebook post…

(Name of fellow candidate), you do realize that the marketing slogan of “America’s Finest City” was dreamed up as a response to losing the Republican Convention – and has never had any facts to support that claim, don’t you?

The City, and by association the County (which constantly has to disassociate itself from the City), has more of a reputation as “Scam Diego” or “ScANdal Diego,” especially when it comes to career politicians.

I am running for Mayor to change that – and to create a new future where we are known as “San Diego – Where Dreams Become Reality.”

My (family member), (name) after whom (facility) in (location) is named, died at age 49 after becoming (title) for the County.

It is time for me to step forward and run for Mayor, despite the pay cut and the fact that I am not a Career Politician.

My (family member) died at an early age working under our County’s Motto:”The Noblest Motive is The Public Good.”

It is now time for me to step forward and apply to work for the present and future Citizens of the City under its Motto: “Semper Vigilens.” For those that do not speak Latin, the translation is “Always Vigilant or Watching.”

On October 12, 2013 “The Roar” begins at 9:30 a.m. at Shelter Island as The Horseless Carriage Club fires up their 1915 and earlier cars to drive the Historic 1915 Point Loma Race Course to Cabrillo National Monuments 100th Birthday Party. This kick-off to counting the days left until 2015 is Free to the Public.

I asked for your support for this Community Activity and did not receive any. That’s OK.

They will hold it anyway!
