Local business owner and Linda Vista Planning Group Chairman Noli Zosa yesterday announced his campaign for San Diego City Council District 7, where Councilman Scott Sherman will be leaving office due to term limits.
Another Republican, Robert Weichelt, announced he would not be seeking the seat last month.

I want you to be among the first to know that today I launched my campaign for City Council and give you some insight on why. When I moved to San Diego in 1990, I immediately fell in love with this city. I spent many years gaining an education at the University of San Diego where I obtained both my undergraduate and law degrees. My education during these years did not stop inside the walls of the classroom. My most valued education was outside the classroom where I got involved in the home community of USD; Linda Vista. This community is one of the most distressed in San Diego and contains one of the lowest income census tracts; and the only one north of the 8 Freeway. During my time in school, I spent three years as the Director of the USD Legal Center where we primarily served the needs of low income residents by helping them with their legal issues. This experience really opened my eyes and instilled a passion for helping others in low income communities.
After Graduation, I got involved in various small businesses from wedding planning to operating a guava tree orchard. My most recent venture is my involvement in one of the most beloved restaurant chains in San Diego; Dirty Birds. Building a successful business is tremendously difficult, but through hard work and with the help of great employees, we’ve been honored with numerous awards both locally and nationally. Currently, we employ over 100 San Diegans, and with our expansion plans in the next few years, we hope to double that number.
As the son of immigrants, I truly believe I’m living the American Dream. In my heart, I feel a strong desire to help other San Diegans realize this dream. We have far too many residents struggling to get by and who are living paycheck to paycheck. We need elected leaders to work collaboratively with each other and with our local business community to develop real solutions for our city. We are blessed with a having a world class university system, but if we don’t ensure a strong business community along with an affordable cost of living, we are going to see an exodus of the next generation. We need a local government that facilitates the American Dream, not one that makes it harder to realize it.
My passion for helping all residents of our community get ahead is why I’ve made the decision to run for City Council. I know campaigning can be tough and grueling, and I’ll probably get personally attacked, but the love I have for the people of San Diego and my goal of making positive changes in our city government will make it worthwhile.
