Welcome back to the Real Rostra, election fans!
New totals released by the SD County Registrar of Voters in the last hour
added 20,000 more ballots to the tabulation of key local election results.
Here are a few of SD Rostra’s significant findings:
(1) Lorie Zapf grew her lead over Howard Wayne from 1,570 votes
on Wednesday to 1,672 today. That is a Zapf gain of +102 votes
as she added 1,091 to Wayne’s 989 . The new running totals are
17,878 for Lorie Zapf, and 16,206 for Howard Wayne in the battle for
San Diego city’s 6th council district.
(2) Bill Horn and Ron Roberts continue to pull away in the races for
County Supervisor. Horn now leads Steve Gronke by 8,064 votes, and
Roberts is 15,359 ballots better than Stephen Whitburn.
(3) In Escondido, the race for the 3rd and final city council spot
got even closer. Former councilman Ed Gallo (7,375) still leads
outgoing mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler (7,338) , but she reduced his
margin by 10 votes since Wednesday, by adding 86 ballots in
this update, compared to Mr. Gallo’s 76.
(4) Steve Cooley, Attorney General. The GOP nominee raised his
San Diego County lead by 1,585 votes today. That matters since
Democrat Kamala Harris leads statewide by just 12,004 votes. We
can therefore say Cooley cut his statewide deficit to only 10,419
with just this first San Diego update.
(5) And for Gayle Falkenthal, the No-on-D majority grew again today,
from a 62,70 vote lead on Wednesday, to 66,153 today. That was
the proposal to raise sales taxes in San Diego City.
There are still 220,000 absentees and provisional ballots
to process countywide, and we will follow those trends for you
next week.
Those are your election headlines. And you are officially Up to Date
