Monday’s Labor-Filner Propaganda Tag-team

This morning the Labor Council and Filner each made announcements in the mayoral race.

The Labor Council announced a month old, 400 sample poll that only included San Diego Unified School District, effectively excluded all of DeMaio’s council district 5.  Needless to say this oversight makes the poll about as worthwhile as a survey conducted by a freshman stats class dialing numbers out of the white pages.

Elsewhere, as Filner guess hosted a radio show this morning he announced that if he were elected Mayor he would “offer” Nathan Fletcher a senior job in his administration.  Big deal right?  Apparently some in the media thought it was, but this is nothing new.  Filner frequently made similar remarks in the primary.  Maybe they weren’t taken seriously at the time since Fletcher was still in the race but it seems to be quite a stretch for Filner to consider this a major announcement and odd that some in the media would also report on this as a significant development.  Fletcher for his part gave an appropriately cordial, generic response:

“I care deeply about the future of San Diego and believe it is vital the next mayor bring coalitions together to get things done,” Fletcher said. “The mayor is the leader of our city and if asked to do something to help the community, I would have to seriously consider it.”

Can’t wait to see what next week’s propaganda tag-team brings…
