SAN DIEGO — Today the Republican Party of San Diego County released a web video calling out Assemblyman Marty Block for failing to protect our children and then pursuing a promotion to State Senator. Chairman Tony Krvaric issued the following statement:
-“Our children are less safe today due to the warped priorities of Assemblyman Marty Block. Public safety is not a partisan issue and all voters should reject his shameless pursuit of a promotion. Marty Block is unfit to be a State Senator. Our children deserve better.”
BACKGROUND
In January 2011, the Governor and Assemblyman Marty Block introduced, voted and signed legislation AB 109 that shifts 52,000 convicted felons to our already crowded local jails. As a result more criminals are being released early and local law enforcement officials throughout the state have begun seeing increases in crime and some of these released criminals commit new crimes such as murder, rape, assault, and even child molestation.
The main priority of each legislator should be to project the public, not put them at risk by pushing off 52,000 convicted criminals into our local communities. Violent crime is up in San Diego County since Block’s early release program began (SANDAG study, August 2012.) Homicide is up 20%, rape is up 26% and residential robbery is up 23%, eroding the safety of our neighborhoods.
