Kersey moves to Scripps Ranch to lead effort to make community a charter city
San Diego, CA — City of San Diego Councilmember Mark Kersey is moving from Rancho Bernardo to Scripps Ranch at the end of his term as city councilmember in 2016. With his pending move to Scripps Ranch, Mr. Kersey was asked by community leaders to lead the effort to break away from the City of San Diego and become a new charter city. Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) has given an initial opinion that it supports the creation of the City of Scripps Ranch.
Scripps Ranch, a suburban community, has 11,500 homes and has a population of nearly 30,000 residents. This community has parks, open space, Miramar Lake, ponds, a fire station, a diverse housing mix, a well-balanced business environment, and an active neighborhood watch. Drawing on the self-sufficiency legacy of E.W. Scripps, the patriarch of the Scripps Family, Scripps Ranch believes that it can be better served by being its own city to handle the needs of its residents.
Mr. Scripps Ranch, Col. Bob Dingeman says that this is a long awaited day coming. Quite historic, he commented. Col. Dingeman welcomes the leadership of Mr. Kersey to lead the effort and heartedly believes that “If anyone can do it, it is Mark Kersey!”
