From the Log Cabin Republicans:
We know many will be puzzled by the Log Cabin Republicans’ endorsement of Nathan Fletcher. With two LGBT candidates in the race it does seem a bit puzzling at first glance. However, we are a Republican organization first and an LGBT organization second.
When it came time to endorse we asked ourselves, “Who is best-positioned to lead San Diego into a new era and lead the City?” The answer was clear: Nathan Fletcher. As a matter of fact, on every issue that we discussed as an organization the answer came back to “Nathan Fletcher best reflects the goals and values of our organization”
Like most San Diegans we aren’t single-issue voters and we are facing the same issues as all voters. Which candidate will create jobs? Who will turn the page on the last decade at City Hall? Who is going to bring a fresh set of eyes and bring people together to develop real solutions? Again, the answer was clear: Nathan Fletcher.
While we respect the public service of the other Republican candidates, neither of them will truly lead the City. The next mayor should be able to lead, not simply manage, and do so while building broad coalitions. Nathan Fletcher best represents the goals and values we have as an organization.
We wholeheartedly believe Nathan is the best candidate for mayor. His years of service in the Marine Corps, strong track record in Sacramento and fresh vision for the future give us hope. Let us be clear: Nathan is the future of the Republican Party and we are proud to endorse him.
