WC Varones at Encinitas Undercover posted a snippet from Councilmember Lisa Shaffer’s newsletter:
“I also believe that refusing to participate in a debate organized by the League of Women Voters, even after being given a variety of dates to choose from, is cowardly and disrespectful of voters.”
In the comments thread on the Encinitas Undercover post, one of the participants reported on an email exchange about Shaffer’s accusation:
“I asked Lisa Shaffer in an email who she was talking about as far as the debates. Here is her response:
‘It will become public when it becomes public. Sorry, I am not the one to answer your question.’ Her words, not mine.”
You can’t make this kind of response up. Shaffer throws the classic straw man up, then burns up when the straw man comes burning down.
By the way, the League of Women Voters is NOT an unbiased, non-partisan organization. Any Republican or Libertarian candidate who debates in front of them can expect hostility, loaded questions, and a hostile environment. If the “soon to be public when it becomes public” candidate is not a registered Democrat, that candidate is not “cowardly” but rather “smart.”
Now… is making an accusation against someone, but refusing to name that someone, smart…or cowardly?
