I just might vote for Dave Myers for Sheriff

I’ll admit that Myers drives me a bit nuts with his social media posts but he’s been on message lately.

I want to support Bill Gore but he’s acting like a tyrant and, when measured against Myers’ more libertarian-oriented views, Myers seems like the right choice.  These five policy statements are moving me:

-We must make a new commitment to proactive, respectful, and equitable policing in ALL neighborhoods.
-Hold our deputies to the highest standards of ethics and provide the training and support necessary to achieve this.
-Redirect resources away from targeting cannabis/marijuana or contriving new local prohibitions.
-As Sheriff, I will honor personal protection as good cause sufficient to issue a CCW.
-Redirect resources toward fighting the spread of dangerous and addictive drugs at the producer and distributor level.

I can be critical of bad cops because I respect the hell out of law enforcement.  They have a tough job and most of them approach it with courage, level-heads, and a desire to de-escalate conflict.  I think there are a few systemic issues which makes policing more difficult than it has to be:

(1) mission creep–I think LEOs are becoming increasingly militarized causing an “us vs. them” attitude
(2) the failed war on drugs
(3) citizens’ failure to take responsibility for their safety

Myers is a stark contrast to Gore on those issues.  Unless Gore changes his policies, I may vote for the Democrat next year
