Guest Commentary

Today is Memorial Day. It is hoped that you have had time away from work. Time to spend with friends, family and loved ones.
Most of all today is a time to remember. Remember the sacrifices of those who have come before us. The blood and tears our country has had to shed to be great. Forget these sacrifices and we become undeserving of our heritage.
Today I am writing to set aside politics. To set aside the competing ideologies that are found on a campaign trail. My family and I, with all respect and admiration, wish to thank those who have served. Those who have lost.
I have included two YouTube links below. They are both from one of my personal favorite movies of all time, Saving Private Ryan. The first link is the opening scene of the movie. As WWII history buff a tear came to my eye about 15 seconds in when I realized where it was being shot. The second link is the clip of President Abraham Lincoln’s letter to Mrs. Bixby being read. It sums up a lot to me of the sacrifice and honor earned and owed.
We as citizens, we as Americans, owe a debt to those that came before. That have given us the opportunity to be free.
Lest we forget.
