A new poll shows strong support for Governor Jerry Brown’s tax hike plan, but a new blog post from Rostra’s Richard Rider of San Diego Tax Fighters points out that the poll left out critical facts.
Here is a shocker: The City of San Diego’s largest larbor union has endorsed Bob Filner for Mayor. This led to a press release from Tony Krvaric, chairman of the local GOP, who said: “Labor unions are the enemy of the San Diego taxpayer and such wholehearted support by labor union bosses for Bob Filner should give every San Diegan pause — regardless of party affiliation.”
The San Diego City Council created a new committee that should help ease some of the frustrations of local business owners who believe the City is not business friendly. Councilwoman Sherri Lightner will chair the Economic Development and Strategies Committee.
The Voice of San Diego posted a story Monday night that quotes local Republican businessman Fred Maas as saying he has hired private investigators to look into Councilman Carl’s DeMaio’s background. Then, Maas says, he might turn the findings into a documentary. No word on what, if anything, has been uncovered. It’s no surprise to hear Maas is gunning for DeMaio, who is running for Mayor. The two have butted heads in the past, including at a memorable City Council meeting earlier this year.
Speaking of the Voice, Mayor Jerry Sanders spokesman, Darren Pudgil, took a shot at the online news organization Monday, three days after the site announced it was laying off nearly a third of its staff. Click here to see a recap of Pudgil’s tweets and some of the responses.
In presidential politics, Ron Paul released a YouTube video titled, “Newt Gingrich: Selling Access.” In a tweet, @FlashReport called it “DEVASTATING.” A shorter version of the video is being broadcast on TV stations in Iowa. The Iowa Caucus is three weeks away. Also, Mitt Romney has acknowledged Newt is the front-runner. Meanwhile, Gingrich is promising voters he won’t cheat on his wife.
