SD County court offices now close at 3:30 pm … Library, fire station and recreation center hours are cut back, but somehow San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk Ernie Dronenburg still bucks the trend. First, Ernie reopened the Kearny Mesa and Chula Vista offices closed to the public under an appointed Democrat predecessor toppled in last year’s election. Now Ernie has expanded public hours too, keeping doors open until 5:00 pm for people recording documents, getting copies of their marriage licenses, and the like. Ernie tells SD Rostra he did this with thrift and economy, not a higher budget. How does he do that when so many others cut back public service? SD Rostra’s own Erica Holloway theorizes it must be the Bow Tie !
However he does these good things, we say “Job Well Done” to a no-nonsense Republican elected official…. who genuinely makes Service and Convenience for the Public his Top priorities. He has restored the guiding principles of former Assessor/Recorder Greg Smith, who led the office so ably from 1983 to 2008.
By the way, you first read about Ernie’s insurgent candidacy for Assessor/ Recorder right here at SD Rostra, way back on December 11, 2009. Stay tuned to SD Rostra for more scoops, where we are live, local and late-breaking.
