SAN DIEGO — District Attorney and Mayoral candidate Bonnie Dumanis today announced she would release her personal tax returns and issued the following statement:
“Nathan Fletcher has discovered transparency — it looks like he’s having another one of his last minute conversions.
“Unfortunately, Nathan Fletcher’s sudden interest in transparency comes too late to save San Diego’s redevelopment program. His engineering of a late-night deal in Sacramento demonstrated a serious lack of transparency. Fighting against transparency, Fletcher also joined his colleagues in declining to release his Assembly office’s budget and spending records until a tentative ruling from a judge.
“My commitment to transparency is included in my ‘First 100 Days’ plan, where I pledge to create an open, transparent and accountable city government from day one. A culture of transparency and openness produces better results, encourages honesty, and creates accountability. To take full advantage of the power of transparency in government, city contracts and information on disbursements will be posted online and subject to public and media scrutiny within my first 100 days of taking office.”
