For 16 years, April showers have brought much more than May flowers to San Diego – they bring the San Diego County Taxpayers Association Golden Fleece Awards. Yes, there are Golden Watchdogs and Media Watchdog Awards too. But seriously, all we really care about is who gets called out every year for their less than smooth moves with taxpayer dollars and public programs.
The much awaited finalists list has been published on the SDCTA website. Read it for a good reminder why blogs like San Diego Rostra exist. Anyone surprised at the large number of school districts among this year’s finalists?
The “winners” (in a Charlie Sheen sorta way) will be announced at May 19th’s annual dinner program. Tickets are scarce but still available by calling 619-234-6423. This year’s theme is “San Diego Hangover,” so I expect a large number of Rostrafarians led by The Barkeep to be there.
The Libertarian Lass will be right up front to get a good view of this year’s parody videos starring elected officials willing to get laughs at their own expense while portraying the year’s theme. The videos are only shown at the event, so if you want the inside laughs of the year, best you be there.
