California Small Business Assocation Backs Nathan Fletcher for Mayor

The California Small Business Association (CSBA), a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that advocates on behalf of more than 200,000 small businesses across the state, today endorsed Nathan Fletcher for mayor, citing his proven commitment to creating jobs and a track record of fostering a competitive business climate for California.

CSBA is the first major business organization to endorse a candidate in San Diego’s 2012 mayoral campaign and provides a major boost to Fletcher’s campaign.

“The California Small Business Association membership represents the lifeblood of San Diego’s local economy,” stated Fletcher. “San Diego has long been the home of small business owners, entrepreneurs and risk-takers – but we must work to ensure that we maintain the kind of competitive environment small businesses depend on. San Diego needs a new focus to attract 21st Century jobs. This is important at the state level, and equally important at the municipal level, and I am committed to doing everything possible to support job creation in our city.”

There are more than 100,000 registered businesses in the City of San Diego. More than 95% of them are small businesses – businesses with 12 or fewer employees.

In the state legislature, Fletcher has championed several key measures to support small businesses, including a commonsense bill to relieve statewide microbreweries of unnecessary regulatory burdens, and a bipartisan reform plan with Governor Brown to lower taxes on California’s small business community and provide relief to working families.

“Nathan Fletcher has a proven history of fighting to help small business owners, and has worked hard to create a more competitive environment for job creators,” said Betty Jo Toccoli, president of the CSBA. “The Association admires his ability to lead, put the needs of his constituents first and follow through on their behalf. We have no doubt he will bring that same drive, passion, and focus to San Diego City Hall.”

The CSBA was founded by the California small business delegates to the White House Conference on Small Business in 1980. Their mission is to provide a voice for small business and stimulate the creation of jobs and the economy of California.
