SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Randy Voepel (R-Santee) issued the following statement regarding legislative Democrats’ decision to use taxpayer funds to retain former Attorney General Eric Holder:
“Once again, Democrats in our legislature are putting politics above the interests of California residents and taxpayers. Hiring former Atty. General Eric Holder is an unnecessary, irresponsible, and overzealous stunt that will cost taxpayers dearly. Rather than targeting their efforts against Washington DC, my colleagues in the Senate and Assembly would serve Californians better by focusing on ways to bring back jobs, reform our state’s long-term finances, and strengthen public safety.”
Senate Pro Tem Kevin de León stated that the retainer for Holder’s law firm is $25,000 per month. Legal experts estimate that attorneys of Holder’s experience and stature could bill as much as $1,500 per hour.
