Assemblyman Brian Jones Endorses Randy Voepel for the 71st Assembly District

Press Release

(SANTEE) – Assemblyman Brian Jones has announced his support for Santee Mayor Randy Voepel, who is running for the 71st Assembly District in 2016.

Jones, who currently represents the 71st District, cited Voepel’s strong record as a conservative at the local level.

“Randy Voepel isn’t just a conservative – he’s a conservative who gets results,” said Jones. “As Mayor of Santee, Randy supported pro-business policies that invigorated Santee’s local economy. He has contracted out several city services to reduce city staff, thereby lowering pension costs and ensuring Santee has some of the most stable pension liabilities in the county. The city has also been able to keep crime rates low while providing amenities for children, families, and seniors to enjoy.

“It’s one thing to talk about being a conservative voice – it’s another thing to have a strong conservative record to point to,” continued Jones. “As Mayor, Randy has put actions behind words. I know he’ll not only be an advocate for conservative policies in Sacramento, but will also be able to achieve concrete results.”

“I am honored to receive Brian’s endorsement,” said Voepel. “Brian has set the model for what it means to be a conservative in Sacramento. As Mayor, I’ve worked to be an advocate for limited government, free markets, and the constitution. I look forward to bringing my philosophy to Sacramento and working to reduce the influence of government in our daily lives.”

Originally elected to the Santee City Council in 1996, Voepel was elected Mayor in 2000. Voepel is a U.S. Navy veteran with two combat tours of duty in Vietnam. A graduate from Saint Leo University, he is a businessman in financial services specializing in corporate benefits. He and his wife Susan have two children and three grandchildren.
