75th Assembly District race still in play

Many local political watchers went to sleep last night, perhaps thinking Republican Carl DeMaio and Democrat Kevin Juza were leading in the 75th Assembly District race enough to face off in the November General Election as the top two vote getters.

Not so fast. Look at the following two vote counts for the top three contenders, the first from Tuesday night after polling closed, the second from early Wednesday morning.

Republican Andrew Hayes was behind Juza by 3,795 votes in the first count. In the second, Hayes closed the gap to 2,140.

Yes, a snapshot or two only, but of the 3,015 votes added between the second and third place candidates, Hayes received over 77 percent of the tally, with lots left to count.

Hang on folks. A DeMaio-Hayes matchup would be far more fascinating, to say the least.
