Garamendi Guessing Game
Who will the Governor pick to fill the Lieutenant Governor spot vacated by John Garamendi?
San Diego political consultant John Dadian of Dadian & Associates sent this helpful list out to his roster, and I thought it well worth sharing. John’s looking for your vote on this, and now so am I. So who’s it gonna be?
Lighten Up, Francis!
I’m surprised none of my fellow bloggers have posted any commentary yet on the number one issue of the week in the state of California: the now-infamous Assembly Bill 1176 veto memo signed by Governor Schwarzenegger that appears to have a personal message embedded in a code using the first letter of seven successive lines of copy. Governor Signs Ammo Restrictions Bill
Now flip-flopping all over the place from last year’s stance, the Governor today has signed AB962, the bill that requires buyers of handgun ammunition to leave thumbprints and detailed personal information with registered ammo sellers, as well as put restrictions on online bullet sales. It prevents California residents from ordering ammo on-line from out of state and having it delivered to them.
Taking effect Feb. 1, 2011, the bill authored by Assemblyman Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, requires any ammo they buy would need to be picked up at a licensed handgun ammunition dealer, similar to the way guns are currently bought and sold, but without the waiting period. However, purchasers must supply a photo ID and a thumbprint. This info must be kept on file and supplied to law enforcement when asked.

State tax commission makes recommendations
BRIAN JOSEPH, Sacramento Correspondent
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced this morning that he will be calling a special session of the state Legislature to review recommendations for updating the tax code, which were released today.
The Commission on the 21st Century Economy, a 14-member, bipartisan committee appointed by the governor and legislative leaders, has been working for nine months on a series of recommendations to simplify the state tax code and reduce tax revenue volatility, a prime culprit behind the state’s budget crisis this year.
