Farewell Message From Chapter President Eddie Sprecco

It’s been an exciting year (plus) as President of the San Diego Young Republicans. Going into 2013, our goal as a board was to focus on building chapter infrastructure, recruiting new members and expanding our schedule of events to attract new faces and fund our outreach programs. While we had success in each of these areas, we didn’t have the “off” year we expected to fully implement these plans.

Instead, the chapter was involved in multiple special elections including bus trips to Fresno to walk precincts for Andy Vidak for Senate, and support Kevin Faulconer for Mayor right here in our own back yard. Andy Vidak is now the Republican Senator in a seat with a heavy Democrat voter registration advantage. And, SDYR members are very proud that San Diego is the nation’s largest City with a Republican Mayor – Kevin Faulconer. These wins were made possible by a message of inclusion, a strong coalition, excellent campaign leadership and a lot of hard work.

The incoming SDYR board includes members of the team that made victory possible here in San Diego. Now in 2014, a true “election year” our chapter will have the opportunity to be involved in two highly contested races for San Diego City Council, as well as a nationally targeted Congressional race in the 52nd District. Our incoming President, Jesse Gipe, has both the campaign experience and organizational leadership skills to lead our club into these political battles while continuing to build for the future.

Nathan Miller, who our chapter supported early for California Young Republican Federation Chairman, has repeatedly been an ally in getting statewide resources to our area in support of chapter endorsed candidates. We look forward to Nathan’s leadership at the State level to continue paying dividends in San Diego races.

Thank You Outgoing 2013 Board Members!!

The success of the San Diego Chapter is no accident, but is the result of dedication from key board members and supporters. Outgoing board members Peter Garafolo and Tori Bramhill were instrumental to our success, and will be involved in continuing the growth of the organization – whether they know it or not! Elisa Forcey has been an excellent Executive Director for the club, wearing multiple hats working on campaigns and juggling YR duties, and always with a smile.

Finally, if there ever were a lifetime achievement award for YR’s it would go to Liz Saidkhanian. Liz has been the foundation of SDYR for years, and single handedly willed many events and programs to success. No one has exhibited as much selfless dedication to the success of this Chapter as Liz, and the new board will have to step up big-time to fill the shoes of our outgoing VP.

While I will be leaving to focus on my new career, I look forward to assuming the role of “Immediate Past President” knowing the San Diego Young Republican Chapter is in good hands with the incoming board. I look forward to a fun and successful 2014 for the Grand Young Party!

Sincerely,

Eddie Sprecco
