CA-52 Getting Interesting – #ACA Toxicity

Wednesday, November 13, 2013
posted by B-Daddy

To see the impact of the health care law’s implosion on political campaigns, look no further than my own 52nd Congressional district here in San Diego.  Scott Peters, the incumbent,is expected to face a tough re-election campaign against the well-known Carl DeMaio.  (I supported DeMaio for Mayor last year.)  While DeMaio has a Republican primary to get past, his high name recognition and backing of the GOP central committee makes him the likely nominee.  DeMaio has been hammering Peters on the health care issue, even though the election is a year away.  Peters has said he would support a House Republican bill to allow individuals to keep their health care.  That Peters would be support a GOP bill on this issue is evidence of how toxic the issue has become.  Leading Democrats are attacking Fred Upton (R-MI) over his legislation, doubling down on the President’s argument that the public doesn’t understand how bad their policies really are and that this is just another GOP plot to undermine the law.  Scott Peters has been supporting the law until recently.

  • The always brilliant Victor Davis Hanson plots the endgame for the ill-named Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  Bottom line, Obama will usurp authority to gut the law, declare victory and move on.
  • Holman Jenkins asks “Why have the stock prices of the insurance industry have enjoyed a huge run-up if the ACA is supposed to reign in special interests?”
  • Dean reports on the end game for socialism in Venezuela and it’s not pretty. Money quote: In this context, “free-market economists” can also mean “anybody that can rub two brain cells together”.

Actions taken by Democrats against the Health care bill will have resounding positive impact next fall. By election time the HCA will be like the ISSA Benghazi affair.

Keep it local and focused. I don’t want Carl messing with my Pension. Also what throw weight has Carl with the Veteran community? ZIP. Get this message. Vets Vote. And non serving political hacks are a dime a dozen in Sn Diego. You patriotic non servers make me ill.

I am 22 year Navy veteran, my father-in-law was a 30 year Navy vet. I support Wounded Warriors in multiple ways. I have personally heard Scott Peters speak and got to ask him a couple of questions about cyberthreats (he is on the relevant committee). I believe he will be a capable candidate. However, he has supported the ACA and it is a disaster locally and otherwise, which trumps other issues, in my view.

What is it about delaying or changing the ACA now that is acceptable to Scutt Peters when he spent weeks bad mouthing the House GOP and Ted Cruz for wanting the same thing during the partial shutdown caused by Obama and Reid while refusing to negotiate under any circumstances. He’s changing direction for political expediency. (Sounds familiar).
Further, where in the Constitution does it say that Obama can just change laws as he sees fit without following the Constitutional(legal) process.
As a veteran who took the oath of loyalty to the Constitution, understand it and still take it as seriously as I did when I took it I am deplored at the acceptance by a congressman who took that same oath and votes and gives support to the flagrant violation of the Constitution and therefore his oath. Likewise any citizen who took the oath whether in the military or as a public official that supports the violation of the Constitution has no credibility on the subject whatsoever.
I’ll take Carl over the Marxist Peters any day. Kirk Jorgensen has served the country in the military and I believe understands the importance of following the Founding Principles and Constitution better than either of these. Take a long look at him.
